Judging from the look of the Pepsi can (because at a certain age, he changed his soda preference to Tab), this has to be the early 80s. Meals included stories, jokes, animal noises (esp piq squeals), green pea fights at the table, and Nettie (Pete's mom) screaming at us all to stop throwing things (all while she laughed and Peter made fun of her).
I loved eating there on Wednesdays. There were at least 10 family members eating dinner together. Then the great-aunts would go play cards or have dessert at Uncle George's house, and Peter would be in charge of the rest of us. He'd turn off the lights and announce, "OK, it's time for Hide n Go Seek in the dark" and we'd all run through the house screaming.
This story is so touching. I can totally relate to it because we used to have the same food fights, only with French Fries. My cousins and I would also play hide and seek in the dark!
ReplyDeleteI never had the pleasure of meeting Peter but feel like I knew him (through his music) He and I have some of the same interests such as our love of Monsters, Horror Films, Halloween (my favorite holiday)
I'm pretty sure that it's why I gravitated to Type O Negative's music and my high respect for Peter. It hurts me to think that there won't be anymore Type O concerts or new music. I will forever cherish what he has given. There will NEVER be another like Peter. And his memory will live on inside me...ALWAYS. Thank you Peter...forever in my heart. R.I.P Kind Soul
That's what's great about family connections ... these are the memories you treasure. Thanks Christi for sharing this with us ...
ReplyDeletethis blog is a wonderful idea. we eagerly await (much) more posts from you, and can't express how sad I am for Peter's passing. even though I never knew him, the music brought us together in a way few things can. keep on the good work.
ReplyDeleteWHAT A GREAT PICTURE AND STORY. I LAUGHED ABOUT THE HIDE AND SEEK IN THE DARK. I BET HE WENT AROUND SCARING EVERYONE!! WHAT A SPIRIT HE HAS/HAD. THE WORLD IS NOT THE SAME WITHOUT HIM...
ReplyDeleteMary,
ReplyDeletePete's zany personality was present at a young age. I looked forward to Wednesday nites with Pete because the best part was learning to LOVE being scared ... just think of a 7 year old running through his house in the dark scared silly, while Pete chased us.
It paved the way for scary movie night with Pete that came later on.
It's one of the best memories I have of being with Pete and the cousins.
Thank you for sharing the picture and this wonderful story. It puts a smile on my face to hear about all of the wonderful and great stories and times you shared together with peter. ..Sincerely windy. :)
