Christmas Eve brought a dream where I could feel the wind on my face, taste the snow flakes on my tongue and hear a familiar voice saying to me to "hold on tight" as I put my arms around his neck and sat on his back. It was night sledding and we were on our favorite hill near the pond. The air was crisp and I felt nervous excitement when I grabbed his neck and we flew down the hill. I could hear the kids from east 15 th street laughing. I could see my cousins at the bottom of the hill. I was safe. I was having fun. I was screaming. I was with Pete.
Thank you to Patty for the beautiful ornaments that Pete's sister Barbara is getting. You are too kind to us.
And thank you to all those special people who continue to donate to the organizations we are fond of.
Sending good wishes for the holidays to you all.
WOW--NIGHT sledding--with Pete! That must've been fun. (I never went sledding at night). I can only imagine how many trees you must've had to dodge on your way down the hill. If he guided a sled the way I see some guys drive....! But then, I'm sure he was extra-careful, with one of you riding on his back!
ReplyDeleteThanks for passing the ornaments on to Barbara. I (almost--don't want to rush the time!) can't wait to see her tree next year! ;)
As always, Love & Gratitude--Patty P
This story brings a tear to my eye once again..thinking of Peter being that fun guy, that sweet man. HIs big arms wrapped around someone feeling safe with him. I am going back to my childhood right now, sledding down those hills in New York myself..I ended up under a car once coming down a hill, wow that was a rush!! We miss him so much this time of year...the new year is coming. So much to remember about him. That magnificent human being, what a blessing he was. He will continue to inspire me with his music, I will continue to be grateful to know his family thru this message blog. We appreciate all your past stories. KNow we are all thinking of you at this time of year. Peter was a blessing from heaven. He was truly an inspiration to a lot of people the family man, the pilar of steele...Peter Steele...yea I get it. He was and will always be a tremendous talent...we miss you Peter. Peace and Love to your family.
ReplyDeleteI will repeat a couple of poems I had posted on the Peter Steele Guestbook in April 2011 and to his family on this message center:
ReplyDelete…..and when he shall die,
Take him and cut him out in little stars,
And we will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night,
And pay no worship to the garish sun.
- William Shakespeare (Romeo and Juliet)
O Star , the fairest one in sight
Say something to us we can learn
By heart and when alone repeat
Say something! And it says “I burn”
- Robert Frost (Choose Something Like a Star)
Peter your star will shine thru eternity. You were and still are a giant to all who loved you. Peace to you in Heaven.
I cried after reading this, simply amazing ♥

What a lovely, heart-warming dream & what a gift - thank you for sharing. I could also almost feel the wind and taste the snow flakes while reading. Especially around this time of the year our loved ones that are gone already are missed a lot. Bringing back some of my own childhood memories with your dream – I remember these long and hard winters (so different compared to now) with lot‘s of snow, icy temperatures and we kids were outside all the afternoon sledding, skiing, just having fun and feeling both excited but also safe in a way you loose bit by bit with growing up .. *sigh* miss these days - hello Peter Pan off to NeverNeverLand :-) I think it is important to try to keep at least a part of being a child even when you are grown up – this unconditional verve for things and the way children see the world – well on some days it really helps and is as important as the salt in the soup :-)
ReplyDeleteI really hope you all had a nice Christmas with lot’s of love & light – something so important for finding some peace within these turbulent, busy times. Spending time together with loved ones is the greatest gift to me since time is limited & these moments are rare but the memories related to these special times are priceless. Wishing you all a smashing New Year’s Eve party & all the best for the new year 2012! Lot’s of love, luck & health to all of you.

A wonderful 2012 to all of you!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful dream - the night, the snow, rush of wind as you sleigh & Pete the protector. I never met the man but I miss him. Is that strange?
ReplyDeleteYet another wonderful blogpost from you Darcie. What a great dream- it makes me wish we all could be there and see it... Peter was a great loving man - and I agree with Rose R, the poems from Shakespear is so fitting to who Peter is for all of us.
ReplyDeleteI wish everyone in your family an amazing and absolutely splendid time during 2012. With love and Hugs /Alexandra
