Peter Steele Is Her Aria in Green

Fellow blogger and Peter Steele fan, Kay Irvin would like to share her poem with the family of ForTheLoveOfPeteSteele blog

Kay notes, "I always loved the Type-O-Negative version of Summer Breeze but I didn't know about the band. After Peter passed ... I read about them and discovered other songs that I really enjoyed. I found interviews and clips ... your brother was a very kind man. (it comes through).  I was shy to write ... but wanted to send you something I wrote (below) ... lyrics/poetry ... it's also a post on my blog. Thank you for your blog ... you and yours are incredibly generous to share private memories with everyone."

This photo is so spooky to me. Peter seems like he's made of wax here.

Aria In Green

Green light, green dreams come to rock me to sleep
Your memory comforts me, ease me deep
Such brightness can never really be gone
Haunting bass and baritone echoes on

Release what's inside, I know you were right
I can still hear your voice in the night
Sending .... "Laugh, cry, challenge reality."
Oh, the green man brings luminosity

Be an open book, I know you were right
I can still feel your presence in the night
Suspended in dusk, touch of Halloween
Oh, rocking mist come aria in green

A thousand candles, a thousand windows
Green dreams come swaying and the green light glows
Lyrical flickering reflects to fly
Softly ... a tall, winged shadow passes by

  1. that was incredibly beautiful and moving! What a touching tribute to the Green Man. Every time I hear the birds, smell the grass, or bask in the late day sun, I think of Peter. I think of what a great man we lost, and the lasting influence he had on all of us. We miss you Peter . . .

Thanks for fighting the shyness enough to share, Kay. Pete would've been happy to have inspired this in you. Very touching.

poem is very very good. and it makes me think of something haunting and very real. Like in your poem A Tall Winged Shadow Passes By...my son's best friend David passed away 4 years ago on 7/14/11. He was loved so much. When he passed away that night I was in my bathroom and I also saw a dark figure pass thru my bathroom next to me. It was David. Just like Peter's spirit will be around for his family. Comforting as it is, you want to reach out and grab that image and bring it back into this world..WE NEED YOU HERE LONGER, PLEASE COME BACK!! Then reality hits and you have to find a way to go on w/o him. That's what hurts. I broke down yesterday and cried my eyes out at work thinking about David. That happens. I call someone I love and tell them I need to talk. For the loss of Peter, this site helps the fans like me know more about the man we loved and cherished. The man who had those magnificent green eyes, who had that oh so sexy voice that smile. This tall, dark handsome man who changed my life forever. Some people are put on this earth to change you, he did that for many many people. We miss him beyond words Peter. Thank you again for this site. Still working on my tribute to Peter and when done will share. Peace and Love to you all.

  5. Lovely Kay! I like the title, esp. use of the word "Aria," it gives this piece a very lyrical tone. I know how personal poetry can be, as sharing what you write comes from someplace deep inside; I'm glad you overcame feeling shy about it because it really is a beautiful tribute...

  6. Hi girls--

...ditto...what Mike and dunebuggy4 said. I spent part of the day working (volunteering) on the gardens at the New York Renfaire and I kept thinking of Peter and how he loved nature, to be outdoors, raking leaves...
    Thanks for sharing. Love & Gratitude--Patty P

  7. ...also, @ Kay--I was shy about responding to the blog at first too. Hell, I didn't even know what a blog was, let alone know how to reply. But I figured, nobody knows me, so why not. And I say again, beautiful poem, and thanks for sharing. :) Patty P

Hold on to what is good even if it is a handful of earth
Hold on to what you believe even if it is a tree which stands by itself.
Hold on to what you must do even if it is a long way from here.
Hold on to life even when it is easier letting go.
Hold on to my hand even when I have gone away from you.
